POOLE AFLOAT CONFIRMED FOR 24-25 JUNE 2006

Poole Afloat will be held on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th June 2006 and promises to be bigger and better. The two-day event will take place at Harbourside Park and Poole Quay. More exhibitors are welcomed to make this a really spectacular event.

This year we have joined forces with Poole Tourism and Rockley Holiday Park – who is sponsoring the event.

Supported by the Borough of Poole Leisure Services and the South West Regional Development Agency, plans are well underway for this major marine event which is to take place on this summer weekend between 10am and 5pm. With an exhibition of the latest yachts, powerboats, as well as dinghies, wind and kite boards; ‘Try A Boat’ sessions; and, a variety of entertainment, visitors will be able to enjoy an action-packed weekend.

An exhibition village will display the latest marine and watersports equipment and services. Crowds will have the opportunity to purchase from a diverse range of marine products from boats of all sizes including RIBs to motor yachts, clothing, safety gear, to watersports accessories, whilst obtaining information on sea safety and training courses.

We will be running a ‘Try A Boat’ again and would be grateful if members would support this. We need a selection of RIBS, powerboats and yachts to be on offer at Poole Quay Boat Haven. The ‘Try A Boat’ booking point will be based within the exhibition village at Harbourside Park.

As well as boating demonstrations, crowds will also be able to enjoy a schedule of free family entertainment including street entertainment, face painting, and live music.

James Sydenham says; "We were overwhelmed by the amount of positive feedback received following the 2005 event from both exhibitors and visitors. The event aims to encourage and inspire people of all ages and abilities to get out on the water, get into boating or perhaps learn a new watersport. We aim to enhance the second year of the event by adding and improving on the first."

For further information about the event or exhibiting please contact Liz Lean PR Ltd on 01202 701828 or email carol@lizleanpr.co.uk.

YOUNG ENGINEERS RN CHALLENGE FINAL

Sponsorship is being sought for the Young Engineers RN Challenge Final, on 30 March 2006. Initial responses to the offer to sponsor the event have been received and these include the Department for Transport, University of Newcastle upon Tyne, University of Greenwich, Rolls Royce, Warsash Maritime College, BAE Systems, IMarEST and the Merchant Navy Training Board. There are still some opportunities available and it is not too late to support this extremely worthwhile event, involving the country’s future marine engineers. If you are interested in supporting this event please contact John Firth on john.firth@british-shipping.org or by telephoning 020 7417 2888.

PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT IN COASTAL ISSUES

There will be a regional workshop held in Newton Abbott, Devon on Friday 3rd March 2006

This workshop represents a rare opportunity to bring together those involved in coastal management and marine education to share ideas on how best to engage people in coastal and marine issues. It is essential that coastal practitioners work together and share limited resources and activities to ensure that time and effort are not wasted and people do not continually have to ‘re-invent the wheel’. The workshop will be a mixture of informed presentations and facilitated break out discussion groups. The regular breaks and hour-long lunch provide plenty of opportunities for networking. The programme and a registration form are available from Erin Pettifer, CoastNET, The Gatehouse, Rowhedge Wharf, High Street, Rowhedge, Colchester, Essex, CO5 7ET. Tel / Fax 01206 728644 erin@coastnet.org.uk
